She started writing poetry as a child and never stopped.

After writing a column, Along the Shoreline, for the Galveston Tribune, she wrote
the Seventy-Five Year History of the University of Texas Medical Branch under the pen name Marcus Dickey.
Her poetry, painting, and essays have been published in a number of periodicals, magazines, and journals.
